Local Committee
We have a single Local Committee appointed by The Good Shepherd Trust. It is responsible for both Ottershaw Christ Church C of E Infant and Junior schools. We provide a supporting role for the school community, staff and children. Working with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team, we are collectively responsible for the continuing development of the schools. Our aim is to promote high standards of educational achievement, whilst ensuring that our Christian ethos underpins a nurturing environment where each child is supported to achieve everything they are capable of.
As a Local Committee we have legal responsibilities, as delegated by The Good Shepherd Trust, that we must fulfil and further information regarding these can be found on The Good Shepherd Trust Board membership webpage. We fulfil a strategic role, acting as a critical friend to the school and are accountable for standards. We are not responsible for the day to day running of the school. We work closely with the Headteacher and the Senior Leadership Team to set aims and objectives, agree, monitor and review policies, targets and priorities.
The Local Committee includes members from different parts of the community:
- Headteacher
- Parent members: parents of children at the school appointed as representatives of the parents by election who are appointed for a 4-year term;
- Staff members: one member of the school staff appointed as a representative of the staff, normally following an election;
- General member
We are all volunteers and, as a team, find it a very rewarding experience to work together to ensure that we deliver the very best education for all children at our schools. We strive to demonstrate continued improvement and to ultimately become ‘Outstanding’ schools.
You will find a brief introduction to each member of the Local Committee on our Meet the Local Committee page. We would very much welcome your feedback or comments and would invite you to contact us in the first instance, via our email address mailto:Governors@ottershawcofeschools.surrey.sch.uk and we will ensure that the right person then deals with your message.
The Local Governing Committee meets six times a year.
