Local Committee
We have a single Local Committee appointed by The Good Shepherd Trust. It is responsible for both Ottershaw Christ Church C of E Infant and Junior schools. We provide a supporting role for the school community, staff and children. Working with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team, we are collectively responsible for the continuing development of the schools. Our aim is to promote high standards of educational achievement, whilst ensuring that our Christian ethos underpins a nurturing environment where each child is supported to achieve everything they are capable of.
As a Local Committee we have legal responsibilities, as delegated by The Good Shepherd Trust, that we must fulfil and further information about these can be found on The Good Shepherd Trust Board membership webpage. We fulfil a strategic role, acting as a critical friend to the school. We are not responsible for the day to day running of the school.
The Local Committee is responsible for:
- establishing the strategic direction
- ensuring accountability
- overseeing compliance
- monitoring grant expenditure and impact.
The Local Committee includes members from different parts of the community:
- The Head Teacher: term of office continues whilst they are in post;
-
Parent Member: parents/carers of children on roll at the time of appointment at the school, elected by the parent body. Parents/carers may be appointed by the GST if there are fewer nominations than vacancies;
-
Staff Member: 1 member of the school staff elected by the staff body;
-
General Member: with particular skill sets and experience recommended by the LGC or GST, and appointed by the GST.
All members are formally appointed by the Trust Board, including where they are proposed through election.
We are all volunteers and as a team, find it a very rewarding experience to work together to ensure that the school delivers the very best education for all children at our schools. We strive to demonstrate continued improvement and to ultimately become ‘Outstanding’ schools.
You will find a brief introduction to each member of the Local Committee on our Meet the Local Committee page. We would very much welcome your feedback or comments and would invite you to contact us in the first instance via our email address mailto:Governors@ottershawcofeschools.surrey.sch.uk and we will ensure that the right person then deals with your message.
The Local Committee meets 6 times a year.
