I am a new Foundation Governor as of June 2013. I am married to Natalie and we have three children, who attend both the Infant and Junior Schools. We have lived in Ottershaw for eight years and regularly attend our local church, Christ Church, Ottershaw.

I am a Fire Officer for Surrey Fire & Rescue Service.  I am passionate about children enjoying school life in a fun and happy environment, and I see this at both Ottershaw schools. I am looking forward to supporting the school and its staff to ensure all the children can be the best they can be.

I joined the governing body in December 2014 initially as a parent governor – but have since become one of the more recently created category of co-opted members. My wife Sarah and I live a five-minute walk from the Ottershaw schools and have two daughters, one in the Juniors, and another currently in the Infants.

I was motivated to become a governor after seeing the passion and dedication from some existing members trying to assist the staff and help make the school as good as it can be for every child. Recently I accepted the role of vice chair, and have also been involved with the school’s Early Years education and producing the Governor’s periodical newsletter in what has been an exciting and challenging time, with the staff and leadership team having worked so hard to restore the schools’ OFSTED status to good.

In working life I am a freelance journalist for national newspapers, mainly covering sport. Seeing some of the schools’ sporting feats of late, there could be some future headline-makers in the ranks… And outside work I’d rather be enjoying time and travel with my family, and watching football at Brighton’s Amex Stadium or cricket at Hove without having to write anything about it.

I have been a member of the Governing Body since 2010. Within my role as teacher, Deputy and Governor I have been priviledged to get to know many of the children and familes of Ottershaw well. Outside of school my family and I share a passion for the outdoor life. We live on a small holding locally - and have a number of pets including dogs, pygmy goats, donkeys and assorted ducks, chickens and geese!

I came to Ottershaw in 2009 when I became vicar and then a couple of months later joined the governing body. It has been great to be able to contribute to school life in this way as well as leading assemblies etc. I have an interest in science as I studied biochemistry and toxicology and worked in that area before studying theology. I enjoy walking my dog, seeing friends and family and travel.

I have been a governor since May 2005 and started as a Parent Governor, progressed to a Local Authority Governor and now am a Co-Opted one. I coached a local football team (Ottershaw FC) for 15 years from junior to adult football and for many years refereed football at adult level. I still run fitness boot camps in the village and along with my wife, Marise still coach children in football and fitness. We also run our own Health & Wellbeing business. Outside of sport for many years I have been writing a fiction thriller and hope to finish it in the next 12 months. Being born and brought up in Leeds I am still an avid Leeds Utd supporter and have sadly influenced my 20 year old son Jack to do the same! We also have two daughters, Emily and Maddie and all three of our children attended the schools.

I became a governor in September 2016. Marianne and I have 2 children, my eldest daughter is in Year 2 in Badgers, and my little boy, who is currently at Rainbow Nursery in Lyne, will hopefully be joining Reception in September. I currently work in telecoms as a Senior Propositions Manager for BT in central London where I’m responsible for product performance in the Corporate sector. Outside of work I’m a keen cook and have just started to learn to play bluegrass banjo.

My involvement with the school to date had been to host the last couple of OPTA quizzes, hopefully I’ll be asked back again next year. I wanted to get more involved as a governor very simply because I want the school that our children attend to continue to do well and for the children to be confident and happy, and wanted to help in any way I can.

As a busy magazine editor - it's not always easy to help out and be involved with everything that I'd like to be. But, for me - becoming a governor is a way that I can try and give that little bit back. I have two girls at the Infant School and am keen, as is every parent I'm sure, for them to get the best start in their educational journey as possible. To be a part of that journey and to try and help the school and it's amazing team be the best it can be is not only exciting but rewarding too.

I have a strong connection with the local community having grown up and attended schools in New Haw before gaining a masters degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Birmingham. I started my career as an engineer working for British Airways before becoming an IT consultant. These roles have given me great opportunities to travel and experience different cultures. My current role involves project, people and financial management.

I am a great believer in giving back to the community and welcome the opportunity to contribute to my daughters’ school.
